Adopt a Heritage Program- Apni Dharohar Apni Pehchan

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), under the Ministry of Culture, is the premier organization for the archaeological research and protection of the cultural heritage of the nation. Maintenance of 3,695 ancient monuments and archaeological sites across India, including the 24 cultural World Heritage sites and remains of national importance is the prime concern of the ASI.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in collaboration with the private/ public sector companies/ trusts/ society/NGOs, etc. through their CSR funding intends to provide, develop and maintain ‘amenities’ at Centrally Protected Monuments and Sites (CPMS) of national importance to enhance visiting experience with a view to make them visitor friendly and give an impetus to the economic development of the region.

A four-pronged framework of the amenities has been conceived with a view to promote overall development of the centrally protected monuments and sites. These four buckets are

  1. Hygiene- Toilets ,Drinking Water ,Baby Care Room, Waste Management
  2. Accessibility-Barrier free access, Signage, Wi-Fi Facility
  3. Safety -Parking, First Aid ,CCTV surveillance ,Lighting & Illumination ,Cloak room
  4. Knowledge-Sales Counter, Interpretation tools, Cultural/ Light & Sound Show, Greening

The Idea is to allow the various Public /Private agencies to choose the amenities as per their interest which they can develop, operate or maintain at the monuments.

The objectives of the program are:

  • To develop visitor enabling infrastructure in and around- CPMS and sites.
  • To create, develop, provide and maintain amenities in CPMS and sites
  • To promote cultural and heritage value of the nation while creating social awareness
  • To Generate employment opportunities and support livelihoods of local communities
  • To provide avenue to the private sectors to partner with the Government to for promotion of India’s rich heritage through the vehicle of CSR
